Jive Kings

What can I say about the Jive Kings? It was the beginning to so many other beginnings. It lead to so many events and experiences and people and contacts and recognition. It was a wonderful three year experience that started as a hometown coverband and grew to become a popular touring act all over the Maritimes and Quebec and Ontario. We were fortunate enough to be nominated three consecutive years for an East Coast Music Award, winning in 2000 and 2001 for Jazz Group of the Year.

Some highlights:

  • "Spoon for a Knife" - Jive Kings debut recording - ECMA Winner
  • "Jive Kings with Measha Breuggergosman" - Jive Kings second recording - ECMA Winner
  • 2000 East Coast Music Awards & Conference in Sydney, NS - Jazz Group of the Year
  • 2001 East Coast Music Awards & Conference in Charlottetown, PE - Jazz Group of the Year
  • 2002 East Coast Music Awards & Conference in St John, NB - Nominated for Group of the Year
  • Indian River Festival 2000 with Measha Breuggergosman
  • Indian River Festival 2001 with Jene Stillwell and performance of "Rhapsody in Blue"
  • Celebrate Toronto Street Festival - Performed on Yonge & Eglinton to 60,000 ppl, ...after which I celebratorily spent too long in an outdoor hot-tub after a week on the road with a diet that consisted of coffee, beer, and Lick's Burgers and when I got out of the hottub in the cool july 3am in the morning air all the blood that WAS in my head rushed straight to my toes and all I remember is hearin Mike say "You alright dude" and then ...the next thing that goes on in my brain is...why are their stars on my ceiling....and why are Mike, Perry, Bob, Barrie, etc, etc, in my room dripping wet and half naked, hanging over me asking me "Are you alright?!" with looks of fear in their faces ( Jon and Dan were inside at this point...I guess they couldn't handle the situation)...

anyway... I eventually realized that I fainted and the boys explained that I was staggering around saying weird things and then I slammed onto the concrete sidewalk and rolled into the hedge. Embarrassed as hell I stood up quickly and said "I'm alright I'm alright no worries" and then my stomach felt like it was going to explode and as Mike Ross explains.."It sounded as if someone, somehow attached a rubber whoopie cushion mouthpiece to a large Hefty-Bag and then jumped off a roof and landed on it creating the most amazing sounding flatulence you've ever heard!". Except this was real! and with that...SPLAT!! I fainted again...then again I was thinking...why are their stars on my ceiling....and why are Mike, Perry, Bob, Barrie, etc, etc, in my room dripping wet and half naked, hanging over me asking me "Are you alright?!" with looks of fear in their faces ( and yes....Jon and Dan were still inside ...)

Ah yes...the Jive Kings...experiences too many to name!
